Head Coach – Bruce Smith
What a privilege it is at Henley to have such an experienced State coach at our club. Bruce is a Level 3 coach in all categories of athletics including Sprints, Throws, Jumps, & Hurdles. Any field you would like to specialise in Bruce can help you!
Bruce has been involved with HDLAC for 28 seasons. He is a dedicated volunteer, loved the sport of Athletics and is there every Tuesday and Thursday night ready to train our athletes.
Bruce has attended many interstate meets for South Australia as a state coach for Little Athletics, SAPSASA, SAPSSA and is a regular attendee at our Friday night meets at Henley.
Bruce has recently retired from the board at SALAA, after serving 13 years on the board. He was a State Coach for SALAA for 14 years. He has also served as President of HDLAC and received Life Membership in 1996.
Gary’s involvement in Henley Districts spans over two decades. He holds a Level 2 Athletic’s coaching qualification. We are very fortunate to have Gary continue to support, develop and train our athletes. He is a dedicated volunteer and has developed the skills of many of our athletes.
On training nights you will usually find Gary training athletes in jumps and throws. After a session or two with Gary, you will notice your improvement!
Gary received Life Membership of HDLAC in 1999.
Mario is a level 2 advanced coach and specializes in Sprints, Hurdles and Relays. Mario has a background with AFL football in the Amateur Football League and has a level 1 in AFL coaching and enjoys training the athletes on Tuesday nights. He has been involved with HDLAC for 4 years and has been actively involved in the committee for two seasons.
Mario’s philosophy is “ To create an environment which encourages Athletes to learn and develop on and off the track, as well as focus on long term development of athletes in their technique, tactics, mental approach and satisfaction in learning new skills or enhance existing skills, most importantly though is for the athlete to have fun!”
Andrew is a level 2 Coach and he enjoys teaching the athletes. You will usually see Andrew running and sprinting with the children as he likes to join in with the drills and trials that he is setting for the athletes.
Andrew has been at the club for over seven year and has been actively involved on the committee for 4 years. He has taken on the role of Vice President for season 2015/16.
Friday is competition night and training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 5pm, your child will benefit from extra training even if It’s only for ½ an hour per session. Training is included with your membership with the club, at no extra charge!!
Please come out either on a Tuesday or Thursday night at 5pm to meet our coaches and train with them.
